Written from a conversation between Tara student Vivienne Rush and three of the organisers of Angels & Archangels Week: Eleni, Nikos and Ben.

Angels are here, and yet we forget to connect with them in our everyday lives. Ever modest and respectful of our free will, they will never intervene unless they are called. As human beings we feel close to angels, resonating with their light and their loving presence, feeling peace and reassurance. But we forget to ask for their support.

Angels & Archangels Week is an angelic celebration that takes place every year. Its main intention is to deepen our connection with angels, archangels and other angelic beings of light, through meditations, angelic techniques and performances. It is open to everyone, whether you are just curious and would like to know about angels or you would like to deepen your connection, because there is always room to improve this relationship.

Where it began

The celebration was started by a yoga teacher in Sweden, and it has always been international. While we celebrate it in London, it takes place in many other countries at the same time, and Tara has been part of it for over two decades.

It falls at the end of October and the beginning of November because it is said that at this time the veil between the physical world we live in and the world the angels live in, the astral dimension, is thinner, so communication is easier.

Some activities are done by all celebrants, wherever they are: the main presentations, the meditations, and the Angelic method, a technique performed by all the groups around the world. Each group then enriches the programme with activities of its own.

Angels and yoga

Tara teaches a broad spectrum of authentic spiritual teachings, and the angels fit into that. The meaning of yoga is to bring union between all the different aspects that make us up as human beings and make up our lives. Everything is about relationship, and angels help us with our relationships on every level of our life. They organise the harmony of the entire creation, so in anything which brings harmony, we can ask for angelic help.

Most of us know of angels from the Christian, Judaic or Muslim traditions. But they don't belong to any one tradition. They are universal beings with their own objective reality, described all over the world, and in many different cultural ways.

During the week

Each day we are introduced to specific angels and archangels and, in recent years, to godly attributes that the angels live in a permanent way. The presentations are detailed, with a lot of information, so you can understand who these beings are and begin a relationship with them.

Then we meditate together in what we call an exemplification: the state we are aiming for is transmitted to everyone taking part, supported by music chosen for it. When we meditate in a group like this, the power of the meditation is multiplied many times over, because everyone brings a different nuance to it.

It's not just the sum of the parts; there's a kind of symphony of experience that builds up in the room.

In these meditations you can discover an affinity with one or more of the angelic beings, or with the state they live in. Once you realise it's there, you can cultivate that relationship, and it can help you in your spiritual evolution. For some people this is a starting point. For others, who have already had an experience, the group meditations are fertile soil in which the relationship grows stronger.

Every day we also practise an angelic method, which anyone can carry on doing on their own once the week is over.

Meeting your guardian angel

The relationship with our guardian angel is one of the most fundamental. Each of us has a guardian angel, and therefore has the guidance, support and presence of a powerful and loving being that is constantly with us. Our guardian angel can help us to remember, reveal and know who we are, and to connect back to God, or with any other angel or archangel.

During the week there is a meditation of communion with the guardian angel, and some of the techniques involve its presence, which helps this relationship to start growing.

What participants shared

Over the years, many participants have told us how surprisingly easy it was to feel the connection with the angels and archangels of light, and many had never had this experience before. After taking part in the week, people shared that they felt connected, at home, joyous, centred and inspired. Some even felt inspired to offer more, to be more kind, to be like an angel.

It is up to us. The more open we are, the more we can gain from it.
