When We Ask: Stories of Angels in Everyday Life

Part 3 of 3 in What Happens at Angels & Archangels Week?

In this article

  • Three personal stories of asking for angelic help
  • Angels in the ordinary moments of the day
  • Transforming difficult emotions
  • Angels as guides to our spiritual home

Written from a conversation between Tara student Vivienne and three of the organisers of Angels & Archangels Week: Eleni, Nikos and Ben.

Angels can't interfere with our free will, but they are always offering help. When we ask, the answer can come in ways we would never expect.

A crystal

Eleni comes from a Christian background, and for a long time she related more to Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary and the saints than to the angels. Still, in some dangerous or difficult moments of her life, she felt a sense of protection. When her yoga course reached a section about angels, she realised that that feeling of protection had been the presence of her guardian angel, there all the time, even when she hadn't paid attention. From that moment on she recognises and feels the angels' presence in her life.

One day she closed her eyes and prayed, How can I improve my relationship with my guardian angel? What can I do? A couple of hours later, a girl she knew came to her with a gift. It was a crystal, to improve her relationship with her guardian angel.

She had asked, and even though no one knew of her prayer, the answer came in the form of somebody giving her a present. This is one experience among many that she had since she started to call upon angels more consciously.

The school trip

Ben used to be a schoolteacher. At the end of one school year, he and the other teachers took the oldest class on a trip to Sweden. One lad in the class was very bright, a natural leader, and Ben had always thought of him almost as a friend. But a group of the boys started causing trouble, the lad was something of a ringleader, and he wasn't responding to anything the teachers said.

That evening Ben went to bed feeling quite desperate, wondering whether he would have to send the boy home the next day. Before sleeping, he asked his angel to talk with the boy's angel and see if they could resolve it.

The next morning they got on the coach for a trip, and Ben sat down, still feeling heavy. Then the lad actually came and sat next to him, saying that he had realised this might be the last time they saw each other and he didn't want it to end like this. He wanted to say sorry, and hoped they could still be good friends in the future.

It was the last thing Ben expected, and it almost brought a tear to his eye; feeling so moved, he shared what he had asked the night before, to which the boy just laughed and said, "Well, who knows?" But Ben would like to think it may have sown a seed that will ripen later in his life.

If we're having a difficult issue with someone, we can ask our guardian angel to speak with their guardian angel.

A presence you can feel

For Nikos, the relationship grew gradually. In the early years of Angels & Archangels Week there was always a sense of magic in the celebrations. Later, performing at the opening of the week, he embodied certain archangels, and felt very clearly an energy that was not ordinarily his own, a presence so powerful it was almost vibrating at the physical level.

He also remembers the first communion with Archangel Uriel, many years ago. Uriel was new to him, and in that meditation he felt his very powerful presence and support.

In ordinary moments

Angels are not only for the difficult times. When you see something beautiful out in nature, you can thank your angel. If you listen a bit more carefully, all kinds of beautiful inspirations come through, and as the relationship with our angel develops, we start to realise their source.

When negative emotions come, we can ask the archangels to be present with us. There is a kind of alchemy of emotions in the presence of these beings of light.

From jealousy, you start feeling love; from fear, you feel courage.

And whenever we do something in line with the godly harmony, we invite the angels closer. We feel stronger, things work more smoothly, and we see that we are not just us anymore. There is definitely something more than us there.

The way home

It is often said that the journey from the head to the heart is the longest journey you will ever take. The mind defines everything through separation, and gives us a sense of being separate from what we really long for. The more we centre in the heart, in the present moment, the deeper we feel a sense of home and belonging, and the closer we come to who we truly are.

Angels unite the Creator with the creation, and with the creatures in it, such as us. In the same way they help us to reunite everything that is scattered within us, and so they help to bring us home.

In 1976 Dorothy Maclean, one of the founders of the Findhorn community in Scotland, received a message from an angel: we have forgotten who we truly are. We are powerful beings, but we don't remember, and the angels are asking us to let them be our teachers, guides and protectors until we do.
