Part 2 of 2 in What Happens at Angels & Archangels Week?

In this article

  • Why the first step is to ask
  • Connecting through the heart
  • Small daily ways to remember the connection
  • The different ways people perceive angels
  • How to know whether an experience is genuine

Written from a conversation between Tara student Vivienne and three of the organisers of Angels & Archangels Week: Eleni, Nikos and Ben.

A fundamental thing about connecting with angels is to ask. Angels respect our free will, and unless we are in a very serious situation, they will not interfere in our lives of their own accord. So we need to be ready to ask for help, support and guidance, which they will offer.

Even if you may not feel yet your guardian angel's presence, if you are curious, just jump in and ask:

I don't see you, I don't feel you, I don't know you, but can you please help me to connect more with you?

Be in the heart

The first way to connect with angels is to be in the heart: be present, be open, be curious. The mind lives in separation and differentiation, while the heart has a wisdom that is beyond words. The mind is useful, of course, but what we are aiming for is a mind that is more in the heart.

It also helps to have an optimistic attitude. There is a famous argument, Pascal's Wager (from the 17th-century philosopher Blaise Pascal), about whether it makes sense to believe in God: you have everything to lose if you don't, and everything to gain if you do. It is very much the same with angels. If you just try, with openness, and look with child-like eyes, with a sense of wonder, innocence and purity, you'll be amazed at the kind of responses you get.

Give it a little time

It is like any other relationship. If we want a relationship with someone, we spend time with them. It is the same with the angels, and it doesn't have to be extra time. Walking down the street, we can say to our guardian angel, let's walk together. Eating, we can say, let's eat together, or, please embrace me. It can be a small gesture or a little prayer, but we need to give a bit of time to remembering this connection, and that helps it grow.

Ask every day: for protection, for healing, for improvement in your relationships. The impact of asking becomes even greater when we do it consciously and continuously.

Find your own way of perceiving

Each of us has a unique way of communicating with the angels and perceiving them, and the most important thing is to find yours. Some people smell a special fragrance and know a certain angel is next to them. Some people hear: Eleni's father once heard angelic singing coming from inside a church, went in, and found no one there. Some people feel touched, literally embraced, with warmth and tingling sensations. Some dream of angels. Some connect through synchronicities, or through symbols, or through messages that come to them from other people.

Angels will speak to us in a language we can understand.

It might be a combination of these, or something else altogether. Some people do see angels, with the physical eyes or not, but that is not the most important thing. What matters is to establish communication and start feeling it, one way or another.

Angels will speak to us in a language we can understand. If we are very intellectual, the message will have an intellectual nuance. If we are very practical, it will come in a practical way.

Judge the tree by its fruits

How do we know these experiences are real? We can imagine all kinds of things; we are very creative in that way. The only way to really know whether it is fantasy or reality is to judge the tree by its fruits. Whatever the experience, how do we feel afterwards? Uplifted? Lighter? Free from old problems or emotions? Closer to our Self? These are the questions that show whether an experience is genuine.

Practise with others

Being in a group really helps. Many participants find that on their own they don't feel the same as in a group. This is true in the beginning, but the group is like an impulse that shows us the way. We can then keep cultivating the relationship by ourselves, and at a certain point we feel the same way even when we are by ourselves.

Try it this week, then join us

Choose one practice and try it for a week. Say let's walk together on your way to work, or ask for help with one small thing, and notice what happens.

If you'd like to experience the connection in a group, come and join us to connect with angels in many different ways. Angels & Archangels Week takes place every year at the end of October and the beginning of November. In 2026 it runs from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November at Tara Yoga Centre in London, with meditations, presentations, angelic techniques and artistic performances. Everything is free, and donations are welcome.
