Esoteric Tantra Yoga

Transform your existence, bring harmony to your life, enliven your relationships

What is Tantra?

Tantra is the path of realising the Truth through the heart, which is consciously opened to everyone and everything.

It is an invitation to awaken now and to live life in full awareness, to enjoy its amazing intensity and experience ecstatic happiness and freedom in the midst of daily life.

It is a path suited to those who wish to live a full and meaningful life, to realise their highest potential, and to celebrate the ‘here and now’.

Tantra embraces all aspects of life consciously and courageously, with the tools and wisdom to realise that life, whether ‘pleasant’ or ‘unpleasant’, is our greatest teacher
and ally.

Tantra shows us that the keys to living consciously and ecstatically are:

  • To stay calm, lucid, and centred, even when life is whirling all around
  • To see the sacredness in ordinary situations bringing a greater meaning to life
  • To say YES to every situation, to both the joys and the challenges that life brings
  • To turn everyday situations into an opportunity for expansion towards our highest spiritual potential

No one can achieve perfection using boring and difficult practices. Perfection can easily be achieved through a complete controlled satisfaction of the desires in full awareness.

2
People who wish for a fulfilling and meaningful life

For those who want to experience all the joys and profundities of life, who wish to understand Who they truly are, and What they are here for. Those who want something much more than a banal existence, who want to live with their heart wide open, saying Yes! to life.

3
People who want to bring authentic Tantra into their daily life

For those who want to know what Tantra is really about, and to know the ancient secrets for expanding their consciousness and transforming themselves, moving beyond their limitations for a deeper connection both with their true Self and with the world around them.

4
People who want to bring Tantra into their relationships

For those who wish to discover a deeper insight into intimacy, and relationships based on heartfelt connection. To have a deeper understanding of eroticism through mastering the erotic energy and awakening their orgasmic potential.

Most of our students attend our Tantra course because they are looking for genuine knowledge, and methods on how to achieve a certain purpose or transformation. Somewhere along the way, they discover that these practices can bring them
so much more.

The results speak for themselves, which is why many of our students and teachers have been practising for more than 20 years, and they continue to transform through the practice.

Yoga practice

Initial awareness and warm-up exercises

Simple exercises of awareness and warming up that activate the beneficial subtle energies of both the psyche and the consciousness. These exercises also “warm up” and moderately stretch the muscles, increasing flexibility and gently preparing the body to perform the various yoga poses.

Practice of asanas (yoga postures)

The practice can include asanas, pranayama (taught later in the course), meditation, and other techniques related to the week’s topic. We learn to perceive the specific resonance processes that each asana triggers, including an awareness stage for observing the effects, which can lead to an expansion of the consciousness and further amplifying of the effects.

Music meditation

By meditating with music that exemplifies a certain state or quality (e.g. humbleness, love, lucidity), we are able to experience it more clearly inside of us and take it into life outside of the practice.

The yogic relaxation

In the relaxation, the entire physical body is led gradually into a state of deep relaxation, after which you will feel perfectly balanced, relaxed and regenerated.

4

Special technique or exercise (some weeks)

If a technique that is not part of the yoga practice is taught, now we will try it together. For example this could include a forgiveness technique, a method for enhancing willpower, exercises for heart-opening or group discussions.

FAQs

What is the difference between the Yoga course and the Tantra course?
The Tantra course teaches first and foremost to embrace life in all its many nuances, bringing a spiritual perspective to every area, including relationships, work life and home life. This process is supported by yoga practice and you will also learn techniques for forgiveness, willpower, harnessing erotic energies, intuition and many more. Through the practice of Tantra, life experiences become an opportunity for expanding, which, together with the introspective time spent on the yoga mat and meditation cushion, lead to great transformations in your being, gradually bringing you closer to your true Self.

In the beginning, the focus of the Yoga course is primarily on yoga techniques, a rich inner work that gradually infuses into the rest of your life. You learn about many different aspects of yoga such as asanas, purification techniques, diet etc., as well as different forms of yoga such as Raja yoga, Bhakti yoga, Hatha yoga etc. Both courses build up step by step, but the yoga course can feel a little more gradual in its progression, with your practice naturally leading you to develop certain attitudes which enable you to transform your life on the outside too. The Tantra course, on the other hand, can feel more ‘full on’, taking you head first into the intensity of vividly lived life experiences.

Tantra yoga is a branch of Yoga. Therefore the tantra course is a deep dive into this particular path of yoga whereas the yoga course covers many different aspects and forms of yoga. This is why there is some overlap in the content for the first 18 months. They both cover similar foundations (such as some fundamental yoga techniques) and then develop in later months and years into very different areas.
Why Tara and not the gym?
If someone looks deeper inside at what it is that they truly want when they go to the gym, they will often find that they are looking for much more than just physical fitness and wellbeing. Perhaps they may realise that they are also seeking mental and emotional balance, a sense of purpose, fulfilment, accomplishment, joy, more energy, connection, growth, transformation, peace, worthiness, focus, confidence and so on. Working out can indeed teach many values, and provides many of these effects to an extent, but for complete transformation, a higher perspective of Who we truly are, and How the universe works is fundamental. The traditional hatha yoga taught at Tara goes both to the depths of our inner world, and to the principles of the Universe, giving the tools for true harmony in all aspects of your life and being.
Do I have to be flexible to do yoga?
No, this course is not designed with human pretzels in mind

All that is needed is your curiosity and an openness to learn.

More than physical prowess, we place much more emphasis on awareness and state of mind while performing yoga postures. By focusing the mind, the effects of the practice are greatly amplified, bringing you the real benefits of yoga, rather than simply stretching! However, by regularly attending the yoga course and practising at home, flexibility can improve over time and become a good indicator of your overall well-being.

The Yoga course provides tools and methods that can be applied in all areas of your life – one of which is the physical body, but great attention is also placed on the energetic, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects.
How long is the course?
We see personal evolution as a continuous process, so our courses continue for as long as you wish to keep learning! Some students continue for a few months, while many attend classes for years. If you ask a Tara student, ‘What year are you in?’ you might hear them reply, ‘2nd year’, ‘4th year’, ‘7th year’ or even more! New lessons every week include tools and practices that allow your ever-expanding knowledge to be integrated into daily life.
Do I need to commit to a year or even the rest of my life?!
No, you can come for as long as you feel the course continues to fuel your curiosity, growth and self-discovery. With our Try Tara pass you can try all our courses for four consecutive weeks. After that, there is a monthly membership for the courses you wish to continue, that can be cancelled at any time – no strings attached!
Is this a religious course?
No. Tara is not affiliated with any religion. We focus on the spiritual principles that are common to all spiritual traditions, so you will hear references being made to a wide range of different spiritual traditions.
Does it matter if I am religious/atheist/unsure?
No, we welcome people of all beliefs and affiliations.

Due to the common principles that are shared across religions, students of a particular faith often find that the tools and knowledge taught in our courses help them go much deeper into their current practices.

Also, with the down-to-earth wisdom of our teachings, there is something for everyone to apply in their life for more fulfilment and meaning – whether you believe in ‘something’ or not.
How fast will I see results?
That is very specific to the individual – everyone has their specific affinities and limitations that affect how fast they transform, as well as the type of transformation they experience. However, by practising frequently – even every day – with an attitude of open curiosity, enthusiasm and optimism, and by being attentive to the transformations that manifest in your life, you will see results much faster than if you practise only in class, or without the inner attitude.
What support is there?
Firstly, your teachers, who are available to answer questions, and give specific advice or guidance. You will also be in a class of others who are embarking on a journey not identical, but similar to your own. Students often become friends and companions, and support each other on many levels.

Secondly, the extensive resource of the course notes which are handed out at the end of each class, as well as our large spiritual library.

Finally, we are a strong spiritual community. Tara has been running in the UK for over 20 years. There are many teachers and students with a wealth of experience, who have seen peaks and troughs on their own spiritual paths as well as on other’s. Such a community provides a strong backbone under which all students – new and old – can grow and flourish.
Sounds daunting. What if I don’t feel ready?
We would suggest that you give it a try! You are never obligated to continue with the classes if you find they are no longer benefitting you. Our four week Try Tara pass allows you to try both the courses for only £40. So you can attend the courses for a few weeks to get a feel of whether they are right for you.

If you would like to attend just one class, you can do so for £17 in London, and £15 in Oxford, Cambridge or Manchester. You can buy a single class four times before choosing if you’d like to join or not. For the best price, we recommend the Try Tara Pass.
Is this course suitable for beginners?
Yes. Even though this is one of the most comprehensive Yoga courses you will find, it starts from the very beginning. No knowledge or experience is assumed. Given the esoteric nature of the teachings, it is anyway new for most people. We often have beginners and experienced yogis together harmoniously in the same class.
I can’t attend the course from the very beginning, can I join later or do I have to wait until next year?
It’s best if you can start the course from the beginning so that you have a solid foundation for the lessons as you progress through the course.

However, the courses remain open to new students for some weeks, so it is possible to join later if necessary.
If you join later, you can catch up by reading the course notes from previous classes, asking the teachers questions, and we run catch-up sessions from time to time. There is also the option, as part of your membership, to repeat the weeks missed from the first year without extra payment if you continue into year 2.
